The Aussie Highland Dancer

The Aussie Highland Dancer (TAHD) was created in 2022 as a way to share fun dance videos from beautiful locations around the world!

From the history of Highland dance to how to pin a plaid or dancer specific stretch routines, the goal for TAHD is to put out videos that are educational and can help both dancers and non-dancers learn more about this Scottish dance form.

Highland Dances

The Highland dances are the dances traditionally performed in the Kilt. These strong, precise dances include the Sword Dance, Highland Fling & Seann Truibhas.

National Dances

The National dances are performed in either an Aboyne (girls) or Kilt (boys). These dances, which include the Highland Laddie, Blue Bonnets & Village Maid are generally more graceful and flowing.

Character Dances

The Character dances are the Irish Jig & Sailor’s Hornpipe. These are fun, unique dances that allow more options than the traditional dances.

Choreographed Dances

Choreographies are modern dances created using the traditional steps. They allow for incorporating movements from other dance forms, while still being in the Highland style.
